Paradigm Shift of Multimodal Transport

This session aims to examine the paradigm shift of multimodal transportation hub operations in South China under the OBOR Euroasia landbridge initiatives. Questions that will be investigated include: What are the changes brought about by the OBOR to multi-modes of logistics and transport in optimizing the factors of time, cost, service and environment? How should the infrastructure of Hong Kong be enhanced in terms of rail, road, sea and air transport to support Asia-Europe business? What are the latest trends in cargo sources and commodity?

To begin, Mr Nicholas Kwan will look into how Hong Kong should react towards various OBOR Eurasia landbridge initiatives, including the Yuxinou Railway Development and the Yuannan government proposed third Euroasia landbridge, connecting from Shenzhen to Rotterdam via Turkey. Then, Mr Richard Morgan will strategically examine the move of logistics service providers towards multimodal service offerings under the development of the Euroasia landbridge. Mr Henrik Christensen will share the views on the landbridge development in China and United States as well as the latest trend of container block train services between China and Europe.
