Session AB2: Safety and Security

This session consists of two parts that examine various risk and safety issues. The first part comprises the following four studies:
  • The OBOR is instrumental in strengthening economic cooperation and integration in ASEAN. The first study aims to examine the strategic action plans to integrate the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) with the OBOR initiative.

  • The other three studies examine container weight requirements. The second study aims to examine the responsibility of rail container transport operators. The third study focuses on the role of ports and the fourth study on the impact of shipping lines on the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) amendment.
The second part comprises the following four studies:
  • The fifth study aims to improve the standards of safety and security of South-East Asia by reviewing issues on the safety and security of maritime navigation.

  • The sixth study presents the risk triangle model for minimizing supply chain risks. The proposed model covers all dimensions of risks classified under cost, quality and legal factors.

  • The seventh study aims to provide a discussion on bio-invasions and bio-security. Insights from case studies will also be provided.

  • The final study identifies risks to ward off the possibilities of malpractice in shipments and inhibit the plight of money laundering in overseas trade finance.
