Session A01: Shipping and Trade

Date: 10 May 2016
Time: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Venue: R1109, R Core (Shirley Chan Building), PolyU

Session Chair: Dr Young-Tae Chang (Inha University)

This session consists of three studies to examine various issues related to shipping and trade:
  • This first study intends to contribute to the literature by investigating currents issues, challenges and prospects of using the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering system in maritime industry. Implications for the OBOR vision will be drawn for further analysis.

  • The second study aims to investigate the impact of market sentiments on the return and volatility of dry-bulk freight rate. Empirical findings will also be presented.

  • The last study extends existing bilateral trade models by incorporating a third-party tax collector. The model develops at two stages: China sets a tax level (the infrastructure usage fee) at the first stage, and companies in any two countries (that trade goods via OBOR) determine domestic supply and export levels at the next stage.
