The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, otherwise known as the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative or the Belt and Road Initiative:
  • aims to connect countries along the belt (original Silk Road) and road (maritime Silk Road) through five routes by linking China to (1) Europe through Central Asia and Russia, (2) the Middle East through Central Asia, and (3) Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Indian Ocean, and

  • uses coastal ports to connect China to (4) Europe through the South China Sea and Indian Ocean, and (5) the South Pacific Ocean through the South China Sea.
With these five international transport routes, connectivity among the core cities and key ports along the routes can be enhanced to further strengthen collaboration and build international economic co-operation corridors. This session is therefore an examination of the issues related to the connectivity of the countries along the OBOR. The discussant of this session is Dr Jan Hoffmann.
