We are living in a rapidly progressive world powered by innovations in various industries. Electric cars are becoming popular on streets; clean energy is generated by solar- and wind-power stations; some products are directly manufactured through 3D printing; goods are delivered to our home directly via shopping on the Internet. Innovation has made our life more convenient and better. However, it also raises new problems and brings new challenges to the management of service and operations systems: Product life cycle is shorter, companies are facing more intensive competition, and customers demand quicker response and increased product variety. As a result, the interaction of manufacturing and service operations with other functional areas such as R&D, engineering, marketing, finance, accounting, HR, and information systems has become increasingly important. The theme of the conference, Innovation-driven Services and Operations, recognizes such a trend. In addition, this is the second time that the conference is co-organized by two universities in both Hong Kong and Macao. The Seventh POMS-HK International Conference will provide a forum for practitioners and academics to share their research, experience, and insights on thematic areas as well as traditional POM problems.
